What is Emergency and Disaster Management Programme?

It is all the work done to reduce and manage the effects of a possible disaster or emergency. Emergency and Disaster Management The fact that Turkey is located in a geographical region at risk for natural disasters such as earthquakes is of great importance in terms of well-trained manpower to take the initiative in case of a possible disaster.

The aim of the Emergency and Disaster Management Programme is to take measures such as training, awareness raising and project development before disasters such as earthquakes, floods, avalanches and landslides. In case of a disaster, it is to train innovative, researcher and entrepreneurial staff who are equipped with knowledge and skills related to their profession, to carry out and manage all kinds of loss-reducing activities, especially coordination.

In addition to providing students with an understanding of emergency and disaster management, this programme is offered to improve their analytical and communication skills and to develop themselves in various career paths, including fire safety, evacuation, pre-disaster planning and legal bases. Students who successfully complete the programme are eligible to receive an associate degree in Emergency and Disaster Management. Graduates of the Emergency and Disaster Management associate degree programme can transfer to the Emergency Aid and Disaster Management undergraduate programme with DGS (Vertical Transfer Examination).

What are the Responsibilities of Emergency and Disaster Management Technicians?

Graduates of the programme receive the title of Emergency and Disaster Management Technician. Graduates are able to take measures such as training, awareness raising, project development before disasters, and in case of disaster, they can carry out and manage all kinds of loss-reducing activities, especially coordination. They can assume crisis desk responsibility in disasters, train and manage the civil defence units under them. They can organise search and rescue operations under all circumstances, undertake their management and administration, and when necessary, they can periodically provide training on search and rescue and survival to all people living in the region where they are assigned. Thus, they can ensure that institutions and individuals can make proactive preparations against hazards, disasters and natural damages.

What are the courses in Emergency and Disaster Management Programme?

In the programme, students are given basic anatomy and physiology, disaster and emergency legislation for legal rights in disasters, fire brigade and fire safety and disaster management courses to get comprehensive information about fire. In addition, they take emergency aid and rescue work, emergency and disaster planning, disaster and emergency psychology and introduction to occupational health and safety in order to be able to carry out comprehensive search and rescue work in disasters. In response to Chemical-Biological-Radiological-Nuclear armaments, they take courses on chemical-biological-radiological-nuclear hazards in disasters.

What Areas of Study for Graduates of Emergency and Disaster Management Programme?

Graduates of Muş Alparslan University Bulanık Vocational School Emergency and Disaster Management Programme can find the opportunity to work in many public and private areas, especially in civil defence search and rescue unit directorates. Graduates can work as coordinators and managers in provincial Disaster and Emergency Directorates, Forest Management Directorates, Municipalities, 112 Command Centres, Fire Brigades.

Summer Internship

In addition to the theoretical courses, students go to the field practice and in the 1st grade summer term, they do a compulsory summer internship for 20 working days in AFAD Provincial Directorates, Fire Brigade Directorates, 112 KOmuta Centres, Emergency Services of Hospitals, Red Crescent Presidency.
